Birth Control

Filed under: doctor, food, random annoyance — by palainat @ 3:30 pm

Ten days ago I went to Walgreens to pick up my birth control pills (Apri a generic of Orthocept) and instead was given Reclipsen (another generic of Orthocept). I asked why this had occured and was told that it was the generic that my insurance company was now covering instead of Apri, but it was the same chemical mix. So I started on that. For two nights in a row I was waking up in the middle of the night, covered in sweat. I knew something was up, but figured my body was just adjusting.

It’s now 10 days later and all this weekend I had terrible cramps in my ovaries, my boobs are sore and to quote my family I’ve “been awful bitchy”.  It all coincides with the pill switch, and no I’m not preggers (I took that test yesterday just for added reassurance).

So I called my doc and he doesn’t have an available appointment until the middle of April. His nurse is supposed to call me back sometime today to see if she can help. I’m hopeful they can just switch me back or put me on something else, cause this sucks.

The two interviews last Friday went well. The morning interview(first interview) was extremely interested and the staff seemed great, but the department chair came off like an ass, so I don’t know that I’d want to work with/for him. The afternoon interview(second interview for the position) showed me that it’d be a much better fit for me, and I could really be a team player with them, so hopefully I will get offered that one :) IF I don’t, I’m probably going to hold off on the job search for a few months. I still feel wierd taking off every week for an interview.

Foodwise, I’m doing good (as you can see below)

B: Peanut Butter Balance Bar & OJ
S: Cottage cheese & Strawberries
L: Grilled Chicken salad w/balsamic vinagrette
S: Cheese stick & Sliced ham rollup
D: Gluten free Hamburger helper (I took GF Pasta, mixed with ground turkey & homemade cheese sauce, mixed it all together)

The Doc Visit

Filed under: celiac, doctor — by palainat @ 9:10 pm

First off, it’s awesome that random folks typed in Foltx and celiacs and got this blog!!

I just got back from the doc’s office. Thankfully, I ran home and found my labwork results from when I had the B12 anemia (pays to be a packrat)! Took that with me and he made copy and listened to my list of complaints. My new doc found the old labwork interesting:

1) All of my thyroid levels were borderline low, ex: My TSH is exactly .40, .39 is considered hyperthyroidism.
2)My iron levels were extremely low
3) My cholesterol was 270

He was “concerned” that the doctor who ordered these tests didn’t do a 3-month followup. So all of those tests got added to my list of bloodwork for tomorrow.

He said he is “golfing buddies” with a doctor who practices allergy & immunology, and asked if I would mind if he discussed my case with him. I was like ‘discuss my issues with whomever you want, if you think it’ll help me!’. So he requested my cell phone number that way he could call me if he gets any advice or recommendations from that doctor. My new doc is definitely leaning towards me having an allergy or immune system issue.

Another thing I thought was funny is that when I mentioned celiac’s, he was like “It’s quite possible and if I was you, I’d already start removing gluten. The worst that could happen is that you feel better”. LOL, good point.

I do lab first thing in the morning. Results may take up to 2 weeks.
