About Me

by palainat @ 2:00 pm

Hi, I’m Paige. I’m a twenty-something (27 in July). I live in the Houston area - technically 1 hour outside of Houston, in an amusing small town, but I commute into the city Monday-Friday.

In 2004, I started working at a company that had a medical scale in the break room–ironically right next to the snack machine. At that moment it occurred to me I had not weighed myself in years. So, with a deep breath I stepped on the scale. It read 192 pounds (picture above taken 1 month before stepping on scale). I became terrified, that number was too close to 200 pounds, and at 5 ft tall I knew that was just too much weight.

Cosmically, a Food Network special aired that weekend about the various diet programs that were out there. For some reason South Beach Diet resonated with me. The next day I bought the book, signed up with a message board, created an online journal and started the long process of trying to lose 70 pounds.

I managed to drop 44 pounds in 2 years and found a passion for Cycling.

Paige 2006

I was featured in Prevention magazine, the Corpus Christi Caller Times (where I was living at the time), a MILK campaign, and had a steady following on my blog (so steady that people in my personal life found it very quickly).

Late 2006, my official dieting went on hold. Massive intestinal pains that shot up my back and  killed my moods and appetite. Anything I ate with oil in it killed me in the middle of the night. Turned out I had all the ‘risk factors’ for gallstones - I’m hispanic, a woman with high hormone levels (thank birth control pills!), and I had what is considered ‘massive weight loss’ in a short period. I had the gallbladder removed in 2007.

It’s now 2008 and I have gained about half of the weight I lost back - which I was told to expect when I had the gallbladder removed. Science hasn’t figured out why that happens - but at least they acknowledge it does occur.

I’ve chosen to sign up with Weight Watchers - because I have to watch my fat intake (I’m in early stages of fatty liver - a reversible condition), joined a gym, will be signing up for a personal trainer soon.

I’m a true Texas half-breed of Mexican & Czech and love my state to death.  I was raised by a hippie and a semi-feminist - here in the state, I’m considered a bit of an oddball, but to non-Texans I’m usually considered oddly conservative.  I own 2 miniature schnauzers, Porter and Paxil (yes, after the drug, I found it amusing); I consider my pups my ‘kids’ and yes, I take Paxil to an acupuncturist for her hips.

I’m sarcastic but also a complete empath, aware of other peoples feelings.

This is me(full size photo coming soon).
