A Stomach, Not a Waist Basket

A Healthier Paige

So, I’m moving along. I enjoyed the 24hour Fitness, but wished they had profiles of their trainers for people to look at. My old gym had a bulletin board that had trainer profiles and certifications, so you could make a decision before purchasing. At 24 Hour, you basically pay for training and then the receptionist gives you your trainer’s name. I’m going to sign up for the $99 special, that way if I don’t like the trainer, I’m not out too much money if I hate the trainer.

Foodwise, again I’m trying. Today I tried to bring my breakfast to work, but apparently I left a banana behind, so I ended up with only having 2 boiled eggs. I have some Angel Fluff from Whole Foods in my desk, so that has sort of taking off the edge of hunger that is starting now. I also only have 12 oz left of my 32 oz water bottle. My water plan is to drink 32oz before lunch. Have a diet coke with lunch, and then fill up the water bottle and down 32oz after lunch for my grand total of 64 oz a day. Lunch will probably be a turkey burger with small salad. Dinner, I’ve got chicken marinating in Italian seasoning & olive oil and will probably pair that with some broccoli J

In non-diet news, I’m so angry at Discover, I’m trying to figure how to file a complaint against the company. I called today to pay off the bill in full (the accounts been closed since early 2001). First, I was told that since I set up monthly payments of $150 set to run through December 2008, I couldn’t pay off the account. Obviously, I got a supervisor on the phone and told them to fix that right away. THEN, when I was giving them all my information, they told me that to pay the account off in full, I’d be charged additional processing service fees  that would amount to an additional $200!!! WTF? I don’t understand….I’m offering them money and they are basically refusing to take it!! I ended up hanging up on the rep, going to Discover online and paying the bill in full today with NO CHARGES. Expect me to go APESHIT if I get debited $150 in May.

24 hour Fitness

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 8:02 pm

Ok, so I’m officially a 24-hour gym member. As soon as I get my tax rebate, I’m signing up for a personal trainer. Along with my Multivitamin, they recommended that I take a Fat Metabolizer. I figured I’d try it out and see what happens. As far as I can tell, it kills my appetite, doesn’t make me drowsy, doesn’t make me hyper, doesn’t have ephedra or anything nasty in it…so I’ll give it a shot for a few weeks and see what happens. I take one before breakfast and one before lunch.

They also seem to push the BodyBugg – the thing that all the Biggest Loser contestant’s wear (you, like me, probably thought it was just a heart monitor). It tracks calories in AND calories burned. I’m intrigued by it, but have concerns about wearing it on my arm all day. Yes, I do work in the medical field, so I doubt anyone would freak, but I can bet I’d get lots of questions and I’m not sure I want to deal with that right now. Plus the BodyBugg is $400 and you have to pay a monthly fee to use it’s website tracking….that’s tough to swallow.

So, I’ve looked around and there is another alternative, the Actitrainer. Half the cost of the BodyBugg, you still have to pay a monthly fee to use the website, but it’s cheaper than WeightWatchers! It can go on your arm, your ankle or around your waist. I like the idea of it being less noticeable to people. So, I’m thinking that part of my tax rebate will go to one of those as well.

Food wise, I’ll only give myself an ‘Eh’. Today I’ve eaten:

B: Oatmeal with 1 tbs brown sugar and chopped walnuts

L: Pan grilled tilapia, broccoli and a small piece of cornbread

S: Angel Fluff (Whole Foods version of Cheetos-Popcorn crossbreed)

Lots of water

I plan on eating an Atkins snack bar before going to work out around 5 p.m. When I get home, I’ve got boiled eggs and salad fixings waiting for me.

Where Country meets City

I’ve been living at my parent’s house, rent free for almost a month now. The 120 mile round-trip drive is debatable, but you would truly be surprised how many people in my small town drive the same route I take every day. If/when I start paying $4 for a gallon of gas I’m going to stay at my aunt’s house, until then, it’s still cheaper for me to spend $100/week on gas than it would be to rent a place and pay the bills. For now my plan is to save as much as possible (I’ll pay off ALL my credit cards at the end of this week!) build a substantial down-payment and buy a place in a few months.

My current schedule:

5:30 a.m. Wake Up, Get Dressed for Work, Walk Dog

6:15 a.m.  Leave House

7:30-7:45 a.m. Get to Office, work through lunch

4:00-4:30 p.m. Leave Office

5:45-6:15 p.m. Arrive at Home

On good traffic days I’m home at 5:45, I ride my bike around town (yes, the whole town…it’s only about 6 miles round trip). I’m also eating breakfast at work…..$0.96 for a bowl of oatmeal…..I don’t think I can make it that cheap at home J I’m still debating if $0.33 per ounce of salad is cheaper than making my own. It does pay off working at the Medical Center; they don’t look at you funny when you ask for a turkey burger, no bun.

I’ve scoped out gyms and I think my best bet will be 24-hour Fitness. We get a discount here at work, so no sign-up fee and only $29/month, no contract. This means that on my way home from work three days a week, I’ll stop off at the one in Pearland, work out for 30min to one hour, then continue on my way. Not shabby. I also noticed a $99 3-personal training sessions special that I plan on signing up for.

On the days I don’t work out, I plan on continuing to ride my bike. I’ve actually been spending more time on my mountain bike, than my road bike. It’s just easier to go down country roads on thicker tires J

Dear Texas DMV,

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 1:59 am

Hello, it’s me, Paige, loyal Texas driver who finally went and updated my drivers license photo and address. I  thank you for keeping it well-staffed so that I was only there for about 10 minutes. This being said, I would like to address an issue that you may want to correct.

Why is the lighting so dark that when I get my license back, I end up looking like cross between a gang member and a vampire? Yes, I can admit in my teen years, I was affiliated with the thugs of a small town, but let’s be honest….the closest we got to “thug life” was Snoop Dogg videos and wearing Dickies. Anywho, it has been nearly 10 years since the last of that behavior, yet I always end up looking like I’m fixing to rob a convenience store and suck the blood of the cashier.

If it was one bad photo, I’d let it slide, but this is the second license photo I’ve had where I look like this. Clearly it is a lighting issue because even though I do have some lovely south of the border blood running through my veins, I’m the light-skinned one in the family.

I hope that you can correct this issue before I have to have this one renewed again.

Sincerely,

Paige T.
