The Underwear Thief

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 3:10 pm

I swear I have one. I live by myself (well, and the 2 schnauzers, of course) so you’d think I’d be able to keep track of my underwear, but no. Somehow I’ve misplaced over half of my underwear……all that seems to remain are my thongs, which lets be honest, I’m not about to wear to sleep in.

So, as it is payday, I hauled my happy ass to Wal-Mart and stocked up. Got 2 packages of Hanes (1 pkg Hi-Cut briefs, 1 pkg regular briefs for TOM days) and 2 pairs of Vasserette girlie looking undies. On the Hanes package they advertise new “Comfort Soft Waistband” and a “No Budge” guarantee. I rolled my eyes, but figured what the heck.

As I sit here in my new Hanes briefs (clothes on as well, dirty minds!) I must say, the waistband is comfortable and so far…..all seems to stay in place! I’m rather impressed with them and just want to let y’all know!

Then to top it all off, my mother calls me and I mention my psychotic need for new underwear….to which she says “Oh, I just washed like 6 pairs of underwear that I assumed you left at the house over the holidays”.

Dammit! :)

Change in Schedule

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 4:18 pm

So normally I’m up at 6:30, walk dog, get dressed, go to work by 7:15. I’m always the first peron here from my department. I leave at 4 and all is lovely because it gives me time to work out or shop or whatever.

Well, this time change has surely kicked my ass. It’s dark and chilly by 5:30 and it makes me grumpy and not wanting to leave my house once I’m home. So, I’ve had to do some thinking and realized the best option for me is to come in later to work. I had to tell my coworkers because the last time I was late to work my coworkers were freaking out, lol.

My plan is to start waking up at 6, walk Porter, get into workout gear, eat a banana and go for a walk/run. Sun is up around 6:20. I figure I’ll walk/run for an hour, putting me back at my townhome around 7:30 am. After a shower, I’ll make some breakfast and get dressed, I should be out the door by 8:15 and at my office around 8:30-9am. I’ll work till 5:30-6 and can get home. The biggest issue will probably be Porter having to wait an extra 30 minutes or hour for his walk…..but that may be resolved by coming home during lunches a few times a week…..we’ll see.

Switching to Core

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 2:51 pm

I showed a 1 pound gain last night at weigh-in. I figure that is fine given last week’s festivities. I bought some of the Measure-rite measuring spoons they sell at the meetings. I just like kitchen gadgets and have thought about getting them for the past few weeks. I’ve also decided to switch to Core for a few weeks. It may be the PMS talking (probably is) but I’ve been starving like a mo-fo this week and have no problem munching on fruits & veggies (unlimited on Core), but I HATE having to count .5 pt every time I eat carrot sticks on Flex. Seems like a good idea for me for now.

Speaking of eating fruits & veggies, does anyone know where I can find pre-chopped fresh cauliflower? I love the stuff raw, but HATE chopping it up–too messy. I can find brocolli spears, sweet potato sticks, and a variety of sliced potatoes, but can’t find cauliflower to save my life!

Also, I managed to run 1/4 mile last night. You see, sometimes (especially in winter) my 15-pound Porter-boogs gets it in his head that he is a sled-dog. He wants to feel the wind in his fur and pull whomever is attached to his leash. So, last night, as he was gearing up to have to have his nightly fight with me over being able to run on his leash, I figured “what the hell” and just took off. We ran to the stop sign and then I figured I better not push my foot any further.

My foot has been doing quite well. My cousin (the physical therapist) took my foot molds, took them to her doctor who is making the orthotics-should have those next week sometime. He called me and recommended that I start getting deep tissue foot massages or reflexology every week. On Friday, Kirk took me to a reflexologist and they worked solely on my left foot. It was wierd because she hit this one spot on my foot that felt on-fire, but throughout the 30 minute massage, the fire traveled up my leg and into my knee before disappearing. The foot hurt like hell all day Friday, but magically on Saturday evening it began to feel like a normal foot. Yesterday I had no foot pain whatsoever. So I’ll be getting foot massages every week for at least a month now.

B: Half a McD’s Burrito: 3.5 pts
S: Fruit Cup
L: Sonomonu salad (cucumber salad) w/ octopus, 2 masago rolls (1 pt)
S: Carrots w/hummus: 1 (for the hummus. Need to make my own Core Hummus tonight)
D: Hamburger patty w/ ff cheese and baked sweet potato fries

Wierd Dream

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 2:46 pm

Don’t know what is going on with me, but last night I had a dream that there was someone in my house and he was coming to kill me. It woke me up at 4 am and I couldn’t get back to sleep because it was one of those dreams that seemed so real that it took me a second to realize it wasn’t real. It sucked ass.

Scale has me back at regular weight so I’ll probably weigh-in tonight :)

B: Lean Pocket Breakfast - 3
S: Yogurt with fresh pineapple - 2
L: LC Panini with carrot sticks - 5
S: Fiber One Bar - 2
D: Crescent casserole thingie - 8
S: Cantaloupe - 2

Total: 22

The crescent thing from last night was good. I ended up turning it into a casserole. Mixed leftover turkey with cream of mushroom soup, canned mushrooms, corn and sweet peas. Poured into a casserole dish and topped with crescent roll strips. Cooked for 20 minutes at 375 in the oven. Makes 6 servings at 6 points per serving. Not too shabby :)

Awwww……

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 8:24 pm

One of our sales guys just swung by my office to ask about something, then asked me if I’d been losing weight (he is out of the office 90% of the time). Told me he thought I was doing such a great job and it was great that I was doing it while I was young (he’s in his late 60’s).

After he left, I nearly burst into tears, it was so nice. Haven’t had a comment like that in a while :)

Cool Article in Shape

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 2:40 pm

I survived the holidays. Will probably wait to weigh-in until Wednesday(as opposed to Tuesday), I’m showing a slight gain, but I think that may be a sodium thing as I had boiled shrimp & grilled oysters on Saturday. I’ll see what the scale says tomorrow before I make that call.

Anywho, in my Shape magazine (Angie Harmon on the cover) there is an article about food excuses. Number 9 is “I’m too time-crunched in the morning to pack a lunch for work”. I tell myself this all the freaking time, I don’t think it’s so much true, as I get overwhelmed with options and just figure I’ll grab something at a restaurant. That is bad for my pocketbook and body, ya know. Anywho, the nutritionist they interviewed recommended ’supersizing your lunch kit” and bringing stuff to the office to throw together quick lunches:

-Box of fiber crackers (ex: Ryvita)
-Lowfat yogurt
-Individual packets of peanut butter
-String Cheese
-Vaccuum packs of tuna
-One bag of carrots and snap peas
-Apples and bananas
-Small bag of walnuts or almonds
-Several cans of low sodium instant soup

This really is the perfect little list for food at work. The only thing that I didn’t bring with me to work was the apples & bananas. They go bad on me too quickly here.

Anywho, hope everyone had a great holiday!

B:2 Nutrigrain Low Fat Waffles - 3
2 tbsp Sugar Free Syrup -1
WW Vanilla Yogurt - 1
S: 100 Cal pack Cheese Nips - 2
L: WW Progresso Soup - 2 (whole can)
Carrot sticks - 0
5 Water Crackers - 1
S: Fiber One Bar - 2
D: Turkey & Crescent Roll Wrap-ups (an experiment)

5 Weird things about me:

1. As a child, I was terrified of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch chefs…I was convinced they were cooking children in their pot.

2. I like my dogs more than most people

3. I’m intrigued by biographies on serial killers. I wonder what happened in their lives that made them take the step to killing multiple people.

4. I can make squeaky noises with my eyes that can be heard from across the room. Seriously, if I want to freak out Kirk (SO) I just start rubbing my eye a certain way and you hear “Eee-eee! Eee-ee!” I’ve been told my dad’s dad could do the same thing.

5. I’m incredibly flexible, which always seems wierd for a girl of my height/weight. I can kick my leg all the way to my shoulder……

"I need to borrow your husband tonight"

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 3:33 pm

Yes, that WAS the title of the email I sent to my cousin this morning, lol.

The original plan for puppy pick-up was for me & my father to pick up the dog on Wednesday in Houston. However, I just learned the breeder, who told me he was in Houston, is ACTUALLY IN HUMBLE!! That is like an hour from me currently! So, why would I drive 2 hours to Pearland, just to turn around and drive up to Humble the next day?!

So, I emailed my cousin who lives near Humble and asked if I could steal her husband this evening to got with me to get the dog. Safety first, you know? I’m not about to go to a strangers house at night by myself!!

On another note, I didn’t get fitted for orthotics yesterday. My other cousin (the above cousin’s sister) called me to say she can get them for me “at cost” as opposed to whatever added cost my doctor’s office was going to charge. I still see my “little cousin” as a 6 year old….I forget she graduated from college and is a physical therapist! She basically called me, asked what was wrong with my foot, and told me she’ll bring the foot molds with her on Thanksgiving, LOL!! Basically, my costs go from around $400 to $130! I’ll probably end up with a couple of pairs for various things!

Flat Feet

Filed under: Weight Watchers, flat feet, shoes — by palainat @ 1:34 pm

It’s official….I have flat feet & am an overpronator :) Had a fun little foot scan that clearly shows not much of an arch on my foot. I was annoyed at the shop I went to, their website mentions the types of shoes they sell, but when I got there, they only had a handful of shoes. The sales lady even told me “Well, we really only specialize in orthotics.” Um….from their website shows all sorts of things besides orthotics.

I ended up going online to Brooks & Asics and entered the information that I had. Then I went to a running store in Houston and started trying on shoes from my list. My mother (with me) thought I was insane that I researched that much! The running store was MUCH MORE HELPFUL than the freaking professional foot solutions place!! The sales guy looked at my scan (brought with me) and recommended added arch supports with the shoes. He had me put one support in the shoe I was trying on, then leave the other shoe without the support, so I could feel the difference. I ended up with some Asics - GTS 2120’s and a pair of the medium arches. He recommended the Asics Gel - Fortitude’s, but he didn’t have any in my size. He’s going to put some on order and call me when they come in. He told me to come back in about a month and get the high arch support. Apparently, you are supposed to gradually switch you arch support so your foot molds to it. A different story than what foot solutions place was telling me, but honestly, I believed this guy over the “professionals”.

It was funny because my foot pain went away within hours of wearing the shoes. I then took off the shoes and my feet started getting sore again.

This afternoon I’m getting fitted for an arch support that can fit my dress shoes.

WW Front- As well as can be expected for a holiday week. Today’s my company’s Thanksgiving luncheon, they provided the standard fare and we are encouraged to bring sides. I brought fresh green beans. Figure I’ll steam them in the microwave before we eat and add some lemon & olive oil. Not shabby. I’ll also be doing my weigh-in tonight instead of tomorrow night.

Yum! Tea!

Filed under: foot — by palainat @ 3:54 pm

It was a chilly 36 degrees here this morning. I got to work and went about making my hot green tea. Deliciousness.

Yesterday, there was a voicemail message from the foot doc reminding me to take off my cast thing. I took it off last night and walked around my house (just general puttering around-to the washing machine to wash clothes, etc). This morning I woke up and the foot is feeling pain. Something I noticed, though, is that when I walk, I’m rolling my foot to where I’m putting most of my weight on my outer left foot (where the pain originated). I think this may be pronation?

Anywho, I’m going to this place tomorrow to get fitted for some running shoes, probably Brooks. While there, I may see what kind of supports they have. Then on Monday I see the foot doc again and we can discuss the orthotics for my work shoes (i.e. dress shoes).
