Haha,

My dad is laughing at my overwhelming organization and planning of Nutrisystem.

Last Friday, our “specialist” Jim called me back to get info on both of us. I decided to go with the Vegetarian plan, because you can add your own protein, so I can add lunch meat or small chicken breast, etc. as needed. Dad is going with the Silver (aka Older People) program. Jim told me to go to the Nutrisystem website and create a profile for the online community. There I can find food lists and other stuff.

On Wednesday, Jim is calling me back to ask what foods we would like ordered. On Friday, my credit card will be charged and the food will be shipped out to us (mine to me, dad’s to his address, obviously).

So, I’ve logged onto the Nutrisystem website and found the message boards. There is a “Foods to Never Order” discussion. I am perusing it and anything that has overwhelming negatives is getting removed from the list–tuna casserole & orange beef are leading so far.

So, I’m looking over my food options & my dad’s food options. I told him I’d email him a “revised list” of foods to choose from.

Heehee, I”m such an enabler.

What did I get myself into

Filed under: nutrisystem — by palainat @ 1:47 pm

Dad-brother drama has calmed.

I don’t think I mentioned it, but the last time I saw my dad, his weight scared me. He has always been a big guy, but for the first time in my life, I was physically scared for him. He’s been having some health problems and FINALLY went to the doctor this week. He is 5 feet 9 and weighs 268 pounds, an all-time high. Not good. The doctor basically told him that he HAS to lose weight. So my dad mentioned to my mother that he wanted to try Nutrisystem. He did it back in the 80’s with success, it just cost SOO much money back then that he had to stop.

So, I saw an opportunity and ran with it. I went to the NS site, got pricing info, did some more research and called my dad to let him know what I found. Research shows NS can be succesful in teaching people proper portion control, but the average user only stays on the program for about 90 days, before falling off or choosing to eat healthier on their own. I explained that I think it would be a good “starting point” for him, but he needs to learn from it and be ready/learn to transition to real food at some point.

Well, he was interested, but still nervous, so…..I’ve agreed to do it with him for at least a month. I’m not a huge pre-packaged food girl, but after seeing my dad & his weight, something has to be done. I’ve already set-up our food options and ordered everything, so we shall see how it goes.

So, come Sept 1, the Nutrisystem experiment begins

Going Insane

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 4:14 pm

Where to begin….

First, I was stranded in North Carolina due to the Tropical Storm that hit Texas… then I finally made it back home (2 days late) and stayed 1 night in my townhome before turning around to go back to the airport to pick up Kirk (back from AZ). We drive down to my parents house.

My brother was supposed to be taking care of the house, as my mom & dad are driving back from one of his projects (ironically, also in NC). Well, Kirk & I arrive and the house is a mess. Dishes are in the living room with half eaten pizza, empty soda cans & chewed up gum all on it. I walk into the kitchen and it smells. I couldn’t even decipher where or what the smell was. Mind you, it was 5pm when I got in, and I was still in a stupor of being stuck on planes for 2 days without going anywhere. I washed all the dishes I could find (by hand,no dishwasher) and sprayed as much Febreeze as I could. I fall asleep around 9:30 pm. Brother comes home at 11:30 and in my sleep I hear him comment that I should have thrown out the trash!! Excuse me, what?! I yelled from my room that I had been there for 4 hours, he lives there!!. Erg. I got up the next morning and drove home (Kirk took off for college in Kingsville).

My parents got home last night and my mother called me. Apparently, my dad is so enraged over how the house looks that he is threatening to kick my brother(24)out. I don’t really blame my dad for feeling that way, but with Aspergers, my bro wouldn’t make it…. I’m torn. The last time my dad got like this, my bro came to live with me. I can’t/won’t allow that now. My brother needs more social/life skills than I can properly teach him….I think my parents realized he needs more help than they can give them…I don’t know. It’s tense. Last night I was freaked out because I know my brother….he gets distraught when you tell him he did something wrong and instead of moving on or learning from it, he feels that he is a complete failure. I can just picture him doing something to himself….and I hate having to worry like that.

Not an Ice Skater

Filed under: skating — by palainat @ 1:12 pm

Oh, dear Lord I’m in pain!

Last night, a friend of mine invited me to go ice skating at our local indoor ice rink. I figure, what the hell, and met her up there. Although it was fun, I fell 3 times, which I don’t think is bad for 1 hour’s worth of exercise, but I didn’t like it. Nope, sorry, but I have a egg shaped bump on the back of my head. WTF? I haven’t had a bump on my head since I was, like, 12! And there is Jennie, doing all the spins & skating backwords. Thank you very much, but I’ll stick to cycling. At least with cycling I get a helmet to protect the head!

Oh! My poor body!

Rolling, rolling, rolling…..

Filed under: Uncategorized — by palainat @ 7:28 pm

I don’t know if my OCD is in play or what, but I have obsessively taken my road bike out every day this weekend. Riding about 8 miles a day, probably for the rest of the week.

I signed up for the Tour De Pink, a charity ride. I’m doing the smallest ride, but this will be my first charity event, so I didn’t want to over do it. I want to ride the Tour de Goliad-Mission Tour, which is 30 miles. It’s in October. I’m waiting to see how I do on my 12 miler first.

My eating has been ok, but I have not seen any weight loss, but I’m not overly concerned just yet. I’m having a huge issue with breakfasts, just not feeling it at all.

I’m thinking maybe I should ride the bike in the mornings, cause I’m always famished after my rides. If I ride in the morning, I can eat a slice of Ezekial with some Almond butter. Then get ready for work. Right now, I’m only doing my rides in the evenings.

Let’s explore today’s menu:
Sausage biscuit
Peach
Jason’s Deli WW Turkey w. potato chips
Chocolate cookie
Asian style Pork Wraps.

Am I carbing too much??

Anyone??

Started Riding Again

Filed under: Cycling — by palainat @ 3:23 pm

Alright-tighty, I started riding my bikes again.

I own both a blue Giant Boulder SE mountain bike, named Irene (yes,I name them) and a red Giant OCR 3 road bike, named Oscar. Irene was an impulse buy and after doing one real mountain bike trail ride, I discovered that mountain biking is not my thing. So, I’m in the process of making her a commuter bike so that I can ride her around town. She is good for sidewalk riding and such.

I took her out on Tuesday for a test ride. This was to gauge how good the roads are around my new place and how many bike lanes I have/what kind of drivers are in the area/ and state or roads. Only managed about 4 miles on her, as she is SOOO much slower and takes serious effort to move. But I was able to find good paths.

This meant I was able to ride Oscar, my true love, last night. He is sleek and can go soooo fast and cover distance well. I found a route online and covered 8 miles, only returning home due to lightening. This weekend I’m hoping to cover the whole 14 mile “short” route.

It feels so good to be on the bikes again. It also has inspired my lust for cycling equipment, which is expensive, therefore dangerous :)
